New Blues

One of my favorite practice ideas is to revoice a common progression. For this little change up, let's take a 12 bar 'blues' progression [we will use a Quick 4], and follow the changes, but with a new realization. This isn't really 'blues', but uses the blues harmonic framework. We are using a D shape riff.

Our core ideas are: using known things to create new things; and, revoicing common progressions.

Each symbol represents 4 beats. We could also play in 3, or play the chords as minors or Dominants, or a mix. Follow your ear.

Plug the following realizations into the progression. Then, alter it or make up your own.

For any given chord, we should have multiple ways to voice it and riff on it. We challenge ourselves to realize known progressions in new ways.
